On July 4th, 2017, and 2018, National Public Radio (NPR) tweeted out the entire Declaration of Independence, line by line, echoing the 29-year tradition of reading it aloud on air. Presumed supporters of President Trump saw a few select tweets and wrongfully assumed NPR was slandering the President and calling for a revolution. Many angrily tweeted back, calling these tweets spam, propaganda, and even trash.

This book annotates the Declaration with these tweets, questioning why so many of the most "patriotic" cannot identify excerpts from one of the most important documents in history. And if arguably the most patriotic article written in the past could now be seen as propaganda, what does that say about the patriotism of today?
